The School of Media Studies at The New School invites applicants
for a tenure track appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor
in Cross-Disciplinary Media Narratives and Design in the Media
Studies Program beginning on July 1, 2022. We are seeking an
outstanding interdisciplinary media scholar and/or practitioner who
can connect the roles of creating cross-platform narratives and the
design of digital experiences, interfaces and emerging media. The
ideal candidate will be connecting theory and practice, and
emphasizing equity and social justice, both in their practice and
in the classroom, elevating and addressing the cultures and
experiences of underrepresented communities. Knowledge and
experience with new and emerging technologies, such as immersive
AR/VR environments, AI and machine learning, or data-driven
techniques is a plus. Of particular interest are candidates whose
work includes a focus in one or more of these areas: queer, trans,
feminist, decolonial, indigenous, critical race, and/or disability
studies, as they bear on creative digital media practices. They
should have an outstanding record or promise of accomplishments in
creative practice and/or scholarly research, and demonstrated
excellence in teaching. Faculty teach five courses or
equivalent per year across the graduate and undergraduate level, in
addition to advising students and supervising theses. The
successful candidate will demonstrate expert knowledge in one or
more core areas of the graduate and undergraduate programs and will
be expected to develop new courses related to their expertise
within the media studies graduate and undergraduate curricula. They
will demonstrate flexibility in pedagogy to engage students from
varying disciplinary backgrounds, in courses that enroll students
from Media Studies as well as from International Affairs, Creative
Writing, Management, Design, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences. The
candidate should also demonstrate an interest and aptitude for
program development as well as serving in faculty leadership roles
(on a rotating basis). They will also be expected to actively
contribute to growing and maintaining an educationally diverse
community in all its activities and programs.
