Opening Details

Williams College is pleased to announce a search for a new Director of the Grants Office. You will serve as a leader in corporate and foundation relations as well as in sponsored research. You will advise and assist the faculty in their efforts to secure external funding for their scholarly and creative endeavors. You will also research and pursue institutional grant opportunities that support the college’s strategic priorities. The director oversees all pre- and post-award grant activities, including preparation of proposals, coordination with on- and off-campus collaborators, compliance, and reporting.

This is a full-time, year-round, administrative staff appointment, reporting to the dean of the faculty and working closely with partners in the provost’s office and the office of college relations. The college is committed to strengthening the grants office with additional staffing, so one of your first responsibilities will be to hire an experienced assistant/associate director to help support Grants Office activities.

Some domestic travel is required. The work of the grants office is deadline-driven, so some nights and weekends will be required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of highly relevant experience with a preference for higher education development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A record of success in academic grant development and acquisition.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, and to manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • The position requires a critical thinker who can readily grasp new concepts in a variety of academic disciplines and be confident in discussing them with private foundations, corporations, and federal agencies.
  • You should be well practiced, clear, and concise in oral presentation.
  • Exceptional writing skills are required, as is the ability to work with faculty members and other campus partners in preparing grant proposals and stewardship reports.
  • You must be adept at working with budgets and statistical data, and should have a knowledge of governmental policies on research compliance.
  • Our expectation is that you will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, and other dimensions of identity.
Please visit https://staff-careers.williams.edu/ to apply. You should submit a 1-2 page letter of interest and a resumé. Application review will begin on November 16th, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay starts around $90,000, commensurate with experience. Job band 2-B.
