Job Summary

The College Transition Coordinator collaborates with school districts and community partners to promote a college-going culture and facilitates the transition of high school graduates. Provides cross-functional services in the areas of admissions, registration and financial aid to prospective students and families. Provide pro-active and on-the-spot, independent diagnostic support and problem resolution in a broad range of areas and issues.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Provides assistance to high school students and their families in completing admission and financial aid applications.
  • Builds and maintains a collaborative relationship with primary and secondary school administrators, counselors, teachers, student participants, and prospective students.
  • Organizes, coordinates, and participates in CROP and Scholars Program events and activities including college visits for high school seniors.
  • Implements daily and weekly sessions for career and college exploration to meet high school senior student participant needs.
  • Facilitates application and registration processes and adheres to registration, admission and program policies and procedures as they relate to the College programs and populations.
  • Maintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends and new legislation relating to College Transition functional area.
  • Plans, coordinates, or assists with workshops and/or presentations for CROP and Scholars Program.
  • Participates in developing and implementing new initiatives and programs.
Other Duties:
  • Keeps set office hours on Florida Southwestern College (FSW) Campus and Florida Gulf Coast University College (FGCU) Campus.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Two years of professional full-time experience working with at-risk populations similar to the CROP or Scholars’ participants.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Guidance, Education, Student Personnel, Human Services, or closely related field.

Background similar to that of the population being served (first generation, low income).

Commitment to the goals of College Reach Out and Scholars programs to serve under-represented students such as first generation and low-income students and their families.

Bilingual skills (Spanish or Creole).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the position.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.

Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

Ability to provide professional customer service.

Ability to present to large groups.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
