Description
The Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University in Washington, D.C. seeks outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment begins August 15, 2022. The successful candidate will teach prerequisite and graduate courses in Neurological speech and language disorders in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Evidence of teaching and research in this specialty area is required. Candidates will also be expected to complete committee work, mentor graduate student research, pursue research and/or creative works, provide service to the University and the community, and supervise graduate clinical practicum if needed.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a minor in speech-language pathology, the Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology and the Ph.D. in communication sciences. In keeping with the legacy of Howard University, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a nationally and internationally renown faculty, and an outstanding reputation for addressing multicultural issues in speech-language pathology. The candidate must demonstrate understanding of and support for the mission of the Howard University.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and have a record of teaching experience at the university level. The ideal candidate must demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based assessment and treatment of communication disorders for a culturally and ethnically diverse client population. In addition to being able to use current technology for teaching, applicants must possess excellent human relations skills and an established research track record.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences;
- At least 1 year university teaching experience;
- Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP;
- Licensure or potential for licensure in the District of Columbia;
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations;
- Evidence of superior potential for developing academic stature.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- engaging in research and/or creative work
- teaching prerequisite and graduate courses in child language
- serving on thesis and dissertation committees
- participating in faculty committee work
- participating in continuing professional development
- executing professional, university, and community service
- writing grants for external funding
