Job Summary

The academic coordinator supports the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics mission of creating leaders of tomorrow by building champions today. This position assists with the direction and operation of the Lindenwood University Academic Success Center, helps create and implement strategies and policies, and assists in developing programs that support the holistic growth of student-athletes.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
  • Creates, implements, and continuously evaluates comprehensive academic plans for assigned student-athletes
  • Assists with day-to-day oversight and operation of the Academic Success Center, including enforcing study hall rules/expectations
  • Stays current in effective intervention approaches, ideal communication methods, and useful hands-on strategies to further academic success and student development
  • Monitors continuing academic eligibility, maintaining working knowledge of and adherence to all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and Lindenwood University rules and regulations
  • Oversees the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
  • Assists with student-athlete development programming, including the student-athlete Welcome Back Social and the Student-Athlete Talent Show; assists with Make-A-Wish fundraising and production of The Roars award show
  • Maintains and organizes highly confidential academic records for large number of student-athletes, including attendance, grades, and testing/accommodations
  • Multi-tasks to prioritize and meet the diverse needs of assigned teams both in season and out of season
  • Evaluates incoming student profiles to assist with creation of individualized academic success plans
  • Collects and analyzes data regarding student-athlete academic performance and Academic Success Center usage to regularly implement positive, informed change
Service Excellence
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Creates supportive environment by meeting regularly with designated at-risk students
  • Addresses issues/inquiries from current and prospective student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff in a timely manner
Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration
  • Communicates regularly and intervenes purposefully with a diverse group of student-athletes possessing a range of communication styles and skill sets
  • Disseminates academic information to coaches and other necessary staff in a professional, timely, and effective manner
  • Communicates regularly with faculty members regarding student-athlete success and welfare
  • Participates in National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) committee work, plus serves on additional departmental and on-campus committees
  • Works from a foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion to support the institutional mission and values of the University
  • Serves as a departmental and campus-wide representative of NCAA student-athlete welfare

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in NCAA athletics preferred
  • Previous full-time experience in NCAA athletic academic support services preferred
  • Completion of vaccination status survey and proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of hire.

  • Working knowledge of rules of the NCAA, GLVC, and Lindenwood University regarding academic eligibility and compliance
