JOB SUMMARY

We invite applications from a diverse group of qualified, service oriented, innovative, and collaborative applicants to serve as the Access Services Librarian (ASL) on the San Bernardino campus, with oversight of access services at the Palm Desert campus (PDC).

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

In this highly visible position, you will be assisting library users and monitoring multiple library functions. Expect to work closely with people, technology, and a variety of media formats.

Oversee the daily operations of the Circulation, Course Reserves, and Interlibrary Loan departments at the Pfau Library and the corresponding services at the PDC. The latter will require regular consultation and interaction with the PDC librarian.

Oversee scheduling and coverage of the access services as detailed above, and keep the dean informed about any issues.

Connect with relevant campus units regarding departmental services, policies, and employment.

The ASL reports to the Dean of the Library and consults with the Librarians' Council and the dean on all matters affecting access services and policies.

As a tenure-track faculty librarian, you will also work to meet tenure standards in three areas: Professional Assignment; Research, Scholarly, or Creative Contributions; and University and/or Community Service. The library provides support for and fosters intellectual endeavors, and values librarians as faculty with their own research interests depending on academic background.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The John M. Pfau Library is the main library for the San Bernardino campus. We occupy five floors and the basement of an old and confusing building. Because we're a commuter campus, the library is usually buzzing with activity in the daytime, but quiet on evenings and weekends. The Helene A. Hixon Information Resource Center is a one-room library at our shiny new Palm Desert Campus, about an hour and a half away. Currently we have 11 faculty librarians and 22 staff; 1 librarian and 1 staff member work full time at PDC. The best thing about working here is the people! We're a friendly and collegial group.

The libraries of the CSU system share a unified library management system (ExLibris Alma/Primo) which enables students to request delivery of a book from any of our 23 campuses. CSU employees are unionized; separate unions advocate for the interests of faculty and staff. Find out more about us at https://www.csusb.edu/library
