The University of Alabama in Huntsville
The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a thriving
Carnegie High Research Activity institution in one of the South's
culturally rich and economically robust cities, seeks the
institution's next Provost and Executive Vice President for
Academic Affairs.
A hub of innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration, UAH is
admired worldwide for global partnerships with international
corporate partners and a robust undergraduate and graduate student
environment. The world-class faculty delivers challenging hands-on
curricula that ensures UAH graduates are prepared to become
tomorrow's leaders. The 500+ acre campus, which includes 17
high-tech centers and laboratories responsible for close to $125
million in annual, externally funded, research expenditures, has
seen substantial growth over the past decade with a current
enrollment of 9,636. UAH is one of three public doctoral research
universities comprising the University of Alabama System.
UAH offers 100+ areas of study, including 42 bachelor's degree
programs, 30 master's degree programs, and 17 Ph.D. programs, in
addition to 17 different research centers, laboratories, and
institutes. UAH maintains a low faculty-to-student ratio and
average undergraduate class size of 37. Many of UAH's faculty
members are engaged in ground-breaking research. Hundreds of UAH
students pursue internships and other experiential learning
opportunities on Redstone Arsenal, and numerous degree programs
offer a curriculum that is complementary to the Arsenal's research
and technological objectives.
With a population approaching 462,000, the greater Huntsville metro
area offers a year-round calendar of superb cultural, recreational,
and family-focused activities as well as restaurants, craft
breweries, and shopping that draw visitors from near and far.
Served by an international airport just five miles from the UAH
campus, Huntsville is within a short drive of Atlanta, Nashville,
New Orleans, Birmingham, and other popular destinations for
cultural enrichment.
Reporting directly to the President, the Provost is the chief
academic officer of the university. The Provost is responsible for
providing leadership in planning, developing, reviewing, and
overseeing all academic programs and their budgets; effectively
implementing the university's strategic plan; recruiting,
supporting, and retaining faculty; recruiting, nurturing, and
educating students; and fostering the maintenance of a productive
and stimulating educational environment. An effective Provost will
have an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree with
credentials in research and teaching sufficient for appointment as
a professor with tenure in one of the academic disciplines present
at the University and prior experience in academic administration
preferably comparable to that of a dean, associate vice president,
or vice president/provost at a research university. A full list of
responsibilities and qualifications is available in the search
profile at https://academicsearch.org/open-searches-public/entry/9510/?search=9510.
Nominations, applications, and inquiries may be sent in complete
confidence. Full consideration will be given to all applications
received by Friday, January 14, 2022. Application materials (to
include a letter of interest; curriculum vitae; and the names,
addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of five
references – who will not be contacted without permission) must be
