SOE seeks to build a network of scholars who are committed to conducting and applying research on racism, ethnicity, social justice, power, and structures of inequality in their diverse fields of specialization. Qualified candidates will have a history of excellent research, teaching, and mentorship in their area of expertise. Each position requires a demonstrated commitment to practices of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through evidence of scholarly and creative activity, evidence of pedagogical practice, evidence of civic engagement and/or a position statement of commitment to a critical praxis of Antiracism/DEI, and/or lived embodied experience. Applicants are invited to articulate connections to and interest in engaging in any of the programs in the school of education including educational leadership, teacher preparation, special education, bilingual education, school psychology, counseling, and higher education.

 

Position Summary

The Department of Specialized Programs in Professional Psychology (EDSP) at Loyola Marymount University invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor in Counseling to begin in Fall 2022. The Department has a history of research excellence and a strong tradition of culturally responsive teaching and community engagement. We seek a candidate with an established record of research and peer reviewed publications in counseling, school counseling, psychology or a related field, as well as a history of successful acquisition of external funding. The candidate should have substantive knowledge in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive school counseling programs. The candidate will teach graduate courses aligned with state and national accreditation and standards that reflect a commitment to anti-racist pedagogy and inclusive classroom practices, and that encourage a culture of learning that emphasizes the LMU School of Education’s commitment to an inclusive socially just community. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Counseling Programs and support all facets of a learning environment consistent with the University, School, and department values and mission.
  • Prepare Counselors according to accreditation standards to work in settings that are responsive to factors like socio-cultural diversity, LGBTQ+ issues, individuals with disabilities, and English learners.
  • Support the outreach, recruitment, and admission of students interested in the Counseling Programs.
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda focused on research, funding, presentations, and publications related to counseling and mental health.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in counseling psychology, counselor education, or related field. (ABD candidates will be considered but must fulfill all degree requirements by August 15, 2022)
  • Evidence of successful graduate level teaching experience, both face-to-face and online, in courses that serve Counseling students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse and under-resourced communities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum for teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural competence, and/or cultural humility, and anti-racism.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated evidence of across-discipline and across-departments collaborations with colleagues to support and advance mutual research interests and professional development.
  • Established record of research, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications in mental health and wellness or a related field, and a history of successful acquisition of external funding.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, or other language common in California’s student demographics
