Job Description

The Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is seeking applicants for an assistant director of student outreach. This full-time position will be a key member of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs team in the college, a diverse organization that includes over 4,000 students in more than 40 majors.

The assistant director position is designed to support the continued integration and advancement of recruitment, student success, and career development. The assistant director will collaborate with other team members to implement and communicate strategic vision for current and prospective undergraduate students. Responsibilities include engaging the target audience through digital campaigns, writing content for and collaborating with the graphic designer to produce promotional materials, managing digital advertising, overseeing the college ambassadors, and coordinating undergraduate student events for career development, student success, and recruitment.

Required Qualifications

● Master’s degree in an applicable field or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience
● Working knowledge of communication techniques for the current college student audience
● Experience using technology to create and deliver dynamic HTML content, event coordination, and manage data and reports
● Experience with digital advertising and marketing
● Ability to supervise students
● Experience in content creation
● Advanced computer skills, particularly related to new software, data management systems, and web-based administrative systems; word processing and spreadsheets
● Knowledge of developing content for the web and social media campaigns
● Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
● Ability to meet deadlines and work independently without excessive supervision or follow-up.
● Flexible and creative in finding new solutions and opportunities to promote the college and meet strategic goals
● Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and the ability to travel, sometimes on extended trips
● Ability to manage confidential files and materials

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with search engine optimization (SEO), email and SMS marketing, and digital advertising creation and placement
● Working knowledge of recruitment, student success, and/or career development initiatives for undergraduate students
● Experience with CRMs such as SLATE
● Knowledge of liberal arts and human sciences academic programs
● Experience in outreach and/or recruitment
● Knowledge of video production
