Description

The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment as Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville. The position will be offered at the rank of assistant or associate professor, in either a tenure or clinical (non-tenure) academic track, dependent on the individual’s qualifications and goals. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 anatomic pathologists in sharing diagnostic services, teaching, resident training and scholarship in support of our College’s academic programs and referral hospital. The anatomic pathology service has a robust and diverse case load derived from our veterinary medical center, referring veterinary clinics, a large felid sanctuary, the Knoxville Zoo, local wildlife, etc., providing abundant opportunities for teaching, discovery and scholarship in a highly collegial and collaborative environment.  https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc/dls

We are seeking candidates who can make meaningful contributions to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The successful candidate is expected to provide high quality diagnostic service, participate in resident training, teach in the veterinary curriculum, and engage in scientific discovery commensurate with their research effort allocation.  Teaching responsibilities include didactic lectures in the pre-clinical curriculum and instruction of 4th year veterinary students during their pathology rotation.  The specific service, teaching, and research effort allocation is flexible, depending on the candidate’s interests and expertise.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have: (1) a DVM (or equivalent degree), preferably from an AVMA accredited institution; (2) board certification in anatomic pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, or eligibility to complete the ACVP board certification examination in 2022; (3) excellent verbal and written communication skills; and (4) the ability to work well with others in a collegial, team atmosphere. Teaching experience is desirable, but not required.  A PhD and/or postdoctoral experience in a relevant field of biomedical research is also desirable, particularly for those interested in developing an independent research program.
