REMOTE option: remote-based location may be possible. Must be US-based; preference for working remotely will be given to a location in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or Washington DC areas.


The Principal Web Developer conceives of and operationalizes digital strategies that advance the needs of the College while anticipating future opportunities and problems; designs, develops and maintains custom web applications, including an extensible content management system used for public-facing websites; serves as product manager on College web properties; architects internal applications that integrate with existing software such as Google Analytics, Orange Tracker ( JIRA ) and other internal communication tools as needed; provides mentorship to junior teammates; serves as authority on best-practices for current web and accessibility standards. A solutions-oriented candidate, they cultivate relationships and collaborate with stakeholders internal to the College and within the University as a whole. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred, in relevant area of study. Job Specific Qualifications
  • 3+ years in a senior role or relevant experience in the creative department of a website/multimedia company. The candidate must demonstrate a history of successful website design, development, and architecture of large-scale systems.
  • Experience with one or more general purpose languages such as Python, JavaScript, as well as with server-side web frameworks such as Django or Ruby-on-Rails.
  • Experience administering content management systems ( CMS ) such as WordPress and Wagtail.
  • Deep understanding of accessibility principles and ability to build products accessible to users with disabilities regardless of device.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of users, both internal and external, as well as the ability to create strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing Unix/Linux and Windows web servers and environments.
Responsibilities
  • Help define vision, strategy, and roadmap for the College’s web presence.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve the College’s web applications, search engine optimization, and overall web presence.
  • Mentor and train team members on industry best-practices; cultivate culture of innovation among web workers including student assistants and other staff members.
  • Offer consultation to College units on web-related matters and accessibility standards.
  • Assist with email blasts.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the team to prototype, design, and launch new features.
