New Hire Job Description- Department of Public Health & Prevention Science

Tenure Track Faculty –Medical Mutual Endowed Professor of Public Health (Assistant or Associate Professor based on experience)

The Department of Public Health and Prevention Science (DPH&PS) at Baldwin Wallace University invites applications for a tenure-track endowed professorship at the Assistant or Associate Professor position from qualified candidates with strong teaching and research background in, but not limited to, epidemiology/ health promotion/ health analytics /mHealth experience/ population health and health disparities. The start date of the appointment is August 1st, 2022.

The Department of Public Health and Prevention Science is vibrant, innovative and rapidly growing. The Department offers undergraduate (BSPH) and graduate (MPH) programs focused on population health, with a future plan of offering a doctoral program in public health.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  1. Teach within both the Undergraduate and Graduate program as well as contribute to University’s Core curriculum,
  2. Establish and maintain an independent and collaborative research program with extramural funding,
  3. Serve on Department and University committees, as well as advise students,
  4. Assume other duties as needed according to the successful candidate’s experiences
  5. Help shape and expand the Department through leadership and service.

Required Qualifications: i) PhD, DrPH, or a relevant Public Health discipline from an accredited graduate public health program; conferred no later than August 1, 2022. ii) Evidence of competence in teaching university-level epidemiology, population health and health disparities, and/or other public health courses; iii) Experience with teaching hybrid (online and in-person) courses, iv) Ability to articulate research agenda and/or demonstrate scholarship in public health or population health promotion/education.  Candidates for the position of Associate Professor will need to show evidence of successfully obtaining extramural funding, accreditation, or curriculum design. 

Preferred Qualifications: i) Post-doctoral experiences; ii) Demonstrated capabilities for attracting and maintaining extramural research funding, iii) Experience working with community/public health related agencies, iv) Expertise in big data and GIS applications; v) Training/knowledge of the social determinants of health, including social justice and health equity, vi) CHES/MCHES/CPH or eligible for earning such certificates vii) International public health work experience. 

The Department provides unique opportunities to work collaboratively within an inspiring multi-disciplinary environment including global health, community health, nutrition, health disparities, health data analysis, LGBT Health, HIV/AIDS, chronic disease management, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Department has ongoing programmatic collaborations with local and international healthcare and community-based agencies.

Our MPH program is distinctive in that it is developed in partnership with two large health systems: the MetroHealth Hospital System - a nationally ranked public health care system located in Cleveland, Ohio - as well as Southwest General Hospital. We are committed to creating a supportive, challenging, and experiential academic experience with intentional connections between classroom, research and applied learning opportunities. The faculty research within the Department is funded by NIH, CDC, HRSA, CMS, State and local government and private foundations.
