The School of Music at the University of Delaware is re-imagining music education, seeking to equip tomorrow’s music educators with the skills to prepare all students for life-long engagements with music. We are seeking a dynamic, visionary music educator to continue to innovate and explore new ideas about teaching and learning music. Joining our existing faculty (Mark Adams, Suzanne Burton, Duane Cottrell, and Paul D. Head), the ideal colleague will contribute expertise in the areas of early childhood, elementary general, and secondary general music education with an emphasis on bold, forward-thinking 21st Century ideas.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   We are seeking an exceptional candidate in general music education who holds a completed doctorate  in music education (ABD considered) with a strong record of PK-12 teaching (college/university level teaching preferred). The successful candidate will have a record of scholarly and creative activities relative to career stage, and demonstrate potential to achieve national and international prominence in music education.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an innovative, forward-thinking approach to the future of music education that will complement the strengths of the current faculty. A background  in music learning theory, early childhood music, and experience with secondary general music education are strongly preferred. Other desirable areas of expertise could include electronic music production, informal and non-formal learning strategies, culturally responsive pedagogy, critical pedagogy, or pedagogical approaches that integrate general music instruction with traditional ensemble classrooms.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in music education (including elementary general music methods and secondary general music methods), supervising student teachers, teaching  graduate courses in the MM-Teaching concentration, advising graduate theses and professional development projects,  and college and university service. Additionally, qualified candidates may be assigned additional teaching duties such as directing an ensemble in the SoM or community music school.

This position is a Continuing Track position, and as such, is a full-time, permanent, teaching-focused position. Continuing Track faculty at the University of Delaware have the benefit of renewable long-term contracts, are eligible for promotion, family leave, and sabbatical leave, participate fully in faculty governance, and have a pathway to promotion.
