Position Summary:
Provides age-appropriate care to college students, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or MD or NP. Provides technical nursing care to students in varying states of health and wellness.

Essential Functions:
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Supports NP or MD by rooming patients, collecting health information, taking vital signs, managing tasks associated with MD/NP visit.
Maintains exam rooms by ordering required supplies and keeping exam rooms stocked for patient visits.

General Responsibilities:
• Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
• Collaborates with MD and NPs, College counseling staff and area health care providers in offering students comprehensive services.
• Provides medical support to MD/NP, as needed, preparing students’ for MD/NP visit and providing care or obtaining diagnostic tests as directed by the MD/NP.
• With every visit, takes a full set of vital signs (temperature, pulse, BP - O2 sat is indicated by chief complaint - height and weight for physicals and contraceptive visits). Checks and updates students’ allergies and current medications (with dosages).
• Administers medications, including vaccines, fully knowing their action, dosage and possible side effects.(LPN only)
• Performs a variety of in-house point of care laboratory tests and interprets results.
• Demonstrates proficiency in performance of technical procedures, such as venipuncture, EKGs, nebulizer treatments, suture removal, audiometry and point of care lab testing.
• Thoroughly and concisely documents all student interactions into the electronic medical record.
• Reviews all incoming documents from lab, radiology and other health care provider, tasking them to the ordering MD/NP, with priority for abnormal results. Notifies students of test results, as directed by health center protocol or as directed by MD/NP.
• Protects confidentiality of students’ health information.
• Responds to questions and concerns of student’s family and the College community referring appropriately to MD/NP or Managing Nurse Practitioner while maintaining student privacy.
• Assists in providing orientation to new personnel.
• Responds on short notice to cover staffing shortage to ensure nursing coverage, as able.
• Participates in the maintenance of the health care environment by ordering medications,supplies, stocking and preparing exam rooms and storage cabinets, preparing medications for
distribution, reporting supply/medication shortages, instrument cleaning, lab and refrigerator maintenance, maintaining logs, quality control testing, disposal of hazardous waste, etc.
• Engages in special projects or assignments as directed by Administrative Director and/or
Physician.
• Provides other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications
Education:

Licensed practice nurse with a current license to practice in Vermont required OR certified medical assistant.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• CPR certification.
• Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner.
• Clinic availability: nursing services are provided when school is in session including lunch recesses.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication that is clear, well-organized and demonstrates an understanding of audience needs.
• An effective team member who contributes valuable ideas and feedback and can be counted on to meet commitments.
• Pursues activities with focus and drive, defines work in terms of success and can be counted on to complete goals.
• Prioritizes and multi-tasks to optimize patient flow and the patient experience.
• Adherence to standards of business conduct and compliance
• Familiarity with Banner, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Experience:
Nursing/ medical assisting experience is required. Experience in a community setting (primary care practice/urgent care) preferred.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Potential exposure to infectious diseases via contact with skin, mucous membranes or contact with blood, body fluids and tissues. Personal protective equipment is provided and expected to be used.
