Qualifications:
Microbiology (and the accompanying lab) is an introduction to the growth, metabolism and genetics of microorganisms, with focus on bacteria and viruses. The application of fundamental knowledge about these organisms to ecosystems, biotechnology and infectious diseases is included. The laboratory involves the application of sterile techniques to the study of taxonomy, physiology and genetics of bacteria and viruses. This is an upper-division course for students who have completed the introductory biology series.
The course will meet in person, on campus on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:15 - 10:20 am during the Spring 2022 term.
The lab will meet in person, on campus on Friday from 1:15 - 5:15 pm during the Spring 2022 term.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular virtual office hours (a minimum of one hour per course and one hour per lab per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of biology, a successful record of teaching experience in biology at the undergraduate level, and familiarity with online/hybrid instruction in order to prepare for contingencies.
