Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Student Life, the Coordinator for Service and Leadership is responsible for creating, developing, and implementing innovative on-and off-campus programming for California Lutheran University students. The position contributes to the overall goals of the Student Life department and oversees all areas relating to service and leadership programming. The Coordinator for Service and Leadership and is an active participant in the university community as a whole.

Representative Duties:
  • Coordinates the planning and implementation of community service and leadership opportunities for students. E
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners, including Academic Affairs, Campus Ministry, etc. on events, projects, and programs that align with areas of service and/or leadership. E
  • Develops and implements signature service programs for the Cal Lutheran campus, including Service Day and international and domestic service trips. E
  • Selects and provides on-going training, supervision, motivation, and holistic support to the Service & Leadership student staff. E
  • Supports and implements division-wide projects and programs, such as, Homecoming Week, New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Commencement. E
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with various internal and external organizations and agencies including nonprofit agencies for service/leadership efforts and campus engagement. E
  • Develops methods for faculty and staff engagement in service and leadership development opportunities alongside students. E
  • Contributes to various service-learning projects and collaborates on methods for outcomes and reflection. E
  • Keeps accurate records regarding budget, placement, student learning and program outcomes. E
  • Markets Service and Leadership events, programs, and initiatives, including the maintenance of website and campus-wide communication efforts. E
  • Collaborates with other Student Life areas and university departments. E
  • Stays abreast of current Cal Lutheran, regional, and national trends regarding community service and service learning through such means as professional organizations, listservs, relationships with other institutions, and attendance at professional conferences. E
  • Promotes a positive image and is a role model for students. E
  • Increases avenues of communication with students by maintaining visibility, availability, and approachability. E
  • Serves on-campus wide and Student Affairs related committees. E
  • Assists in general problem solving and participates in campus crisis response, as appropriate. E
  • Be available as necessary, often including evenings and weekends, to meet student and staff needs and address concerns. E
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in service/leadership programming or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree is preferred.
A passion for service, sustainability and leadership development.
Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with a diverse population of partners.
Demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural and multi-racial communities.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California Driver’s License
