The Department of Computer Science at California State University, Chico seeks applicants for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  The positions to begin August 2022.

 

The Department of Computer Science offers an ABET accredited bachelor's degree in Computer Science, an ABET accredited bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, and a master's degree in Computer Science.  The Department has approximately 400 undergraduate computer science majors, 100 computer information systems majors, and 60 computer science Master's students.  The department is in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management.  Please visit the Department website at http://www.csuchico.edu/csci and the College website at http://www.csuchico.edu/ecc.

 

The minimum educational requirement is a terminal degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a closely related field.  Candidates nearing completion of the terminal degree may be considered, however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than August 1, 2022.

 

Additional minimum requirements are: the ability to teach a broad range of Computer Science and/or Computer Information Systems topics and strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

The successful candidate should include in the cover letter evidence of their commitment to or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds (39% of our undergraduates report belonging to an underrepresented group).

 

Candidates in all areas of Computer Science and Information Systems are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates in networking, machine learning, systems, web development, cybersecurity, and mobile development.  Preference will also be given to candidates with teaching experience.  Research and industry experience is valued. 

 

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.  Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications and preferences of the instructor and the needs of the department.  Most courses are undergraduate major courses in computer science.  The Department offers a couple computer information systems courses and a couple graduate level courses each semester.  Faculty are required to perform scholarship activities such as technical research, education research, publishing academic works, applying for grants, and mentoring student research projects.  Required service responsibilities include participating in committee work, student advising, and supporting the department.

 

The city of Chico offers an outstanding quality of life, and is often rated one of the best small U. S. cities (MSN.com rated Chico among the top eight college towns in the U.S.).  With a population of approximately 100,000 people, it has the feel of a friendly small town but it is also a cultural, entertainment, dining, and shopping hub of north central California. Chico has a great four season climate, with mild winters and 250 days of sunshine.  Chico has an innovative public school system that offers everyone a choice of schools, and has several special programs (e.g., Spanish immersion, and academic plus) along with a vibrant charter school community.  Its location at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills offers excellent access for hiking, camping, skiing, boating, rock climbing, and fishing.
