Student Services Coordinator
Summary
VCU School of Nursing is seeking a goal-driven, self-directed, and creative candidate to fill the position of Graduate Program Liaison to serve our graduate students. The Graduate Program Liaison assists the Assistant Dean in meeting the objectives in the Office of Student Success. This includes the ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines, interact with multiple and frequent internal contacts within the School of Nursing, as well as across the university, and with external contacts at other colleges/universities, outside vendors, public/private sector organizations, etc. The position is also responsible for creating, maintaining, and revising program databases as needed, exercising self-initiative and judgement in streamlining and improving procedures to meet program objectives, and the application of analytic and language skills in the planning and implementation of everyday office work. Activities also include producing reports as needed.
General Duties:
- Serve as contact person for graduate students, faculty and visitors.
- Work with the Office of Student Success (OSS) staff to recruit prospective graduate students.
- Respond to School of Nursing website inquiries related to the graduate programs.
- Work with prospective students to provide information about graduate programs.
- Assist students from admission, to matriculation, and through graduation to answer program questions and link to appropriate personnel and/or resources.
- Respond to emails from all graduate students (potential and current); screen questions to determine appropriate action.
- Assist with planning the graduate students’ orientations and onsite intensive on campus sessions.
- Manage and provide guidance to graduate students on academic programs and university procedures and documents related to completing their graduate education.
- Manage student organizations in CANVAS, and manage student email groups
- Add new students to student management systems (e.g. Canvas, REDCap)
- Facilitate travel requests for doctoral students
- Participate in the planning and execution of OSS events throughout the year (commencement, vesting ceremony, etc.)
- Assist with Graduate student practicum verification requests with the Program Director of the Graduate Practice Programs
- Conduct audits of graduate course syllabi each semester
- Other duties as assigned
- A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience in higher education or a related field.
- Ability to manage multiple work priorities, work under pressure, and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow directions with attention to details.
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving strategies.
- Demonstrate thoughtful and appropriate oral and written communication in daily interactions.
- Knowledge of basic computer applications and various database and software programs, especially Microsoft Suite., and ability to learn new software and technology.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or other related degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, or other related degree from an accredited college or university.
- Computer proficiency in university software (e.g. Google Suite, Banner, REDCap).
- Prior experience in student affairs, student advising or related student success work.
