The School of Music at The University of Florida invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in Piano. We seek an accomplished and versatile pianist with national and international visibility who will help grow our undergraduate and graduate programs in piano which include the BM., BA., MM., and D.M.A.

Responsibilities:   
  • Recruit and teach undergraduate and graduate students in applied studio piano. 

  • Ability to teach piano-related subjects as needed, such as piano literature, piano pedagogy, accompanying, and oversight of the secondary piano program (taught by graduate assistants).

  • Maintain active national and international creative/research profile in areas of specialization.  

  • Active participation in our learning community, finding innovative ways to connect the arts to critical discourses in other disciplines 

  • Participate in shared governance through service to the School, College and University 

  • Collaborate with faculty in performances

  • Possible contribution to UF Quest common core teaching

SCHOOL OF MUSIC: Organized within the College of the Arts, the School of Music plays an important role in the academic and cultural life of the University, the College’s Creative Campus initiative and the community. An All-Steinway school, UF School of Music has 40 full-time and nine adjunct faculty, serving some 200 graduate and 200 undergraduate music majors. Degree programs include B.A., B.M., M.M., D.M.A., and the Ph.D. in music education, composition, ethnomusicology, and historical musicology. Program emphases include performance, music education, theory, composition, music history and literature, ethnomusicology, conducting, and sacred music. The School of Music is also home to the UF Bands program, which includes “The Pride of the Sunshine” Gator Marching Band. Minimum Qualifications:  
  • Doctorate, or master’s degree with commensurate experience

  • Distinguished record of achievement in the field at a national or international level 

  • Experience in teaching applied piano and related courses in higher education

  • Demonstrated capacity for effective engagement in recruitment

  • Evidence of competency in teaching and performing in multiple musical styles, including but not limited to jazz, commercial, and global musics

  • Proficiency with music technology/digital musicianship

  • Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances access, equity, and inclusion 

  • Evidence of a commitment to innovative and cross-disciplinary curricula  

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will bring to the position: 
  • Teaching experience of 3 to 5 years beyond graduate assistantship at the university/college level

  • Demonstrated aptitude for working toward structural and strategic change, particularly in relationship to diversity, equity, and inclusion 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
