ATTENTION:

The Department of Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a UW-W LIFE Program Coordinator (Administrative Manager, AD005).

This will be a fixed-term academic appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Program Coordinator will serve in a teaching and leadership capacity within the UW-W LIFE program, which is a postsecondary on-campus program for young adults with an intellectual disability, and will be responsible for its day-to-day operation. Responsibilities include teaching in the classroom, providing oversight of LIFE staff, securing volunteer and paid employment opportunities for students in the community, facilitating communication with families, development of progress reports, providing ongoing supports and training for students at job-sites to ensure success, as well as other duties assigned by the Director of the program. The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2022. This is a full time (9 month) position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Special Education
  • Teaching experience with students who have an intellectual disability
  • Special education teaching license in Wisconsin or the ability to transfer similar licensure from another state
  • Proficiency with common office and classroom technology
  • Familiarity with instructional best-practices and the field of transition

RESPONSIBILITIES:

40% Provide classroom and field instruction to UW-W LIFE students
  1. Daily instruction in critical content areas such as independent living skills, employment skills, social skills, self-determination, and functional academics
  2. Regularly deploy formative and summative assessments and other data collection procedures to support decision-making and attainment of student goals
  3. Assist with the development of curricular materials, lesson plans, and necessary instructional and programmatic resources
  4. Serve as primary case manager for all students upon entry and delineate responsibilities to staff as appropriate
20% Complete administrative duties that are necessary for successful program operation
  1. Day-to-day details related to the operation of the program
  2. Monthly billing for students receiving IRIS services
  3. Staff /volunteer scheduling and coordination
  4. Assist with conducting prospective student and staff interviews
  5. Assist with hosting open house and parent orientation on an annual basis
  6. Resolve student and staff issues in a prompt and professional manner
20% Locate, secure, and maintain a network of employment and work-related opportunities for UW-W LIFE students
