Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of the position is to assist the University attorneys with legally related matters. The Paralegal will perform legal work under the supervision of the General Counsel. The Paralegal will manage cases; prepare legal documents; research legal issues and/or public records; analyze facts and documents; coordinate discovery processes; interview and coordinate witnesses; communicate with client(s), the public, and others; organize and maintain case files; coordinate work with others; file documents in judicial and quasi-judicial venues, when necessary; and provide litigation support as deemed appropriate. The Paralegal must be knowledgeable in the technical aspects of law needed to support the University attorneys.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Completion of an accredited paralegal program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. * Accreditation may be from the American Bar Association or other recognized organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of the NC General Statutes and Rules of Civil Procedure; knowledge in operating standard office equipment and associated software (e.g. Lexis Nexis, Online NC General Statutes, etc.); knowledge of legal terminology; knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices utilized in legal research; knowledge in preparing reports and other types of correspondence; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word and Excel) Applications; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
