Durham University

Durham University is one of the world's top universities, boasting a welcoming and vibrant international community.

Founded in 1952, the Department of Psychology is consistently ranked as one of the very best in the UK with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and student employability. The department is committed to creating and maintaining a research environment that spans the entire breadth of psychology. Currently the department's research falls within three groupings: Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Science, and Quantitative Social Psychology. There is a vibrant research culture with a weekly departmental research seminar series.

The Department of Psychology at Durham University is looking to recruit a Teaching Fellow for a fixed-term period of 18 months. The position will involve delivery of teaching, assessment and supervision, at undergraduate and also postgraduate level. The role will mostly support the department's undergraduate and masters programmes in Psychology and will require teaching across the breadth of the discipline.

Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible. The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a significant teaching load, which may extend into the summer period, and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy. The Teaching Fellow will be free to follow their research interests where other duties allow but research activity is not part of the job description. The Teaching Fellow would be a member of a research group within the department, appropriate to their area of expertise.

The post is for a fixed term only for 18 months, and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.

All applicants are asked to submit:

A CV and covering letter which details your experience, skills and achievements in meeting (or the potential to meet) the criteria set out above. A statement as to your aspirations as a Teaching Fellow in terms of what motivates you, what you would like to achieve and what your broad approaches to teaching excellence and innovation are (maximum 2 pages). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the University for a presentation and interview.

This is a TF post so we should refer to the TEF metrics. We are a Silver Institution with aspirations for gold.
