WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Department of History is seeking applications for one tenure-track position in mid 19th century United States history with a focus in the eras of Civil War and Reconstruction, at the assistant professor level, beginning July 2022. We seek highly qualified candidates who have a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. The teaching portfolio for this position includes the Jacksonian era, slavery, the sectional crisis, Civil War, emancipation, and reconstruction as well as courses related to the candidate’s research interest. The teaching of an introductory-level world history course is also required; an example of such classes can be found here.  We expect candidates will have a Ph.D. in history in hand by July 2022. The department has 18 tenured faculty and the program offers an undergraduate major and minor in history and places a high degree of importance on mentorship of undergraduate research.
