The Augsburg University Education Department invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position beginning in August 2022. The Education Department prepares teachers and educators to start and advance their career through undergraduate and graduate degree programs in BS completion, Elementary Education, Special Education, Secondary Education, and English as a Second Language; Masters of Teaching (MAT) and Masters of Arts in Education (MAE), including a licensure-only pathway.

Our goal is to set our teacher candidates on paths to purposeful, reflective, and creative careers as educational leaders.  Addressing issues such as inequities and racial injustice is a thread that runs through our majors and programs while focusing on critical and effective pedagogies.  Candidates with demonstrated commitments to equity and inclusion and effectiveness in serving diverse learners and students from diverse communities are especially encouraged to apply. 

A successful candidate will have opportunities to teach and develop Special Education courses across Augsburg's various education programs. The Education Department invites candidates to apply that are particularly poised to dismantle the institutionalized forms of bias and racism within the field.  Our Special Education Courses are offered in a variety of formats:  face-to-face, blended, and online. Priority will be given to a candidate demonstrating interest and strength in teaching with an emphasis on academic behavioral strategies, equity and inclusivity, and social justice issues in the discipline.  

Primary responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, service, and academic mentoring.  Teaching requirements include facilitation of undergraduate and graduate special education courses with adult students in a hybrid format that may include travel between the Twin Cities and Rochester, MN.  Student advising is expected along with committee assignments within the Department and participation in the larger University community.  Maintaining an innovative program of scholarship that complements teaching is essential to fulfilling tenure requirements.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position will possess an earned doctorate in Special Education or related field with at least 18 graduate credits of Special Education instruction. Doctoral candidates, with a documented plan for completion by August 2022, will be considered. Experience as a licensed Special Education teacher of record for at least three years with experience working across a continuum of services and experience of inclusive practices. 

Preferred Qualifications:

    Peer-reviewed research in the field of Special Education  Successful experience working with students in federal disability categories: OHD, ASD, EBD, SLD and DD  Record of successful teaching in higher education  Knowledge of Special Education licensure requirements Experience teaching in online and blended classroom environments
