QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a
CACREP-accredited institution or have a related doctoral degree and
have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor
education program for a minimum of one full academic year before
July 1, 2013. Experience in teaching and mentoring Master’s level

others, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualified applicants should have an interest in contributing to the

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stetson’s Counselor Education department focuses on the education
of the whole student through a strong foundation in the core CACREP
content areas, experiential learning, and professional mentoring
relationships with faculty. Thus, this tenure-track position has a
strong focus on teaching and mentoring graduate students from a
broad cross-section of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities center
on teaching a variety of courses within our two CACREP-accredited
programs in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and Clinical
Mental Health Counseling. The teaching load includes three (3)
courses per fall and spring semesters with additional teaching
opportunities contracted separately in the summer semester.
Candidates should demonstrate a passion for the highest quality of
teaching, combined with the ability to produce rigorous
peer-reviewed academic scholarships. Scholarly activity leading to
publication in peer-reviewed journals and service to the
Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the University, and
the profession is required. For more information on our
expectations in teaching and scholarship, our tenure policies, and
our support for faculty development, please see the Office of the
Provost and Academic Affairs website: www.stetson.edu/provost
THE DEPARTMENT:
The graduate Department of Counselor Education
(www.stetson.edu/counselor) consists of six full-time faculty
members and is dedicated to preparing counselor education students
to be ethically informed; developing a keen awareness of their
personal strengths and resiliency; further developing an
appreciation for cultural diversity, critical thinking, and
creative expression; and having a deep commitment to the counseling
profession and community as a whole. Our commitment is to produce
stellar graduates whose work centers on helping individuals,
couples, and families in a diverse world. Our faculty are engaged
in initiatives that include externally funded grant activities
(HRSA and The John Templeton Foundation), leadership within the
American Counseling Association, collaborative work across
departments within the University to enhance the health and
wellbeing of our community, and local and international work (i.e.,
Bhutan and Kenya) centered on the development of culturally
sensitive programs and interventions for vulnerable populations.
These initiatives create unique and exciting opportunities for our
students and for the individual who will be joining our team.
THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences
(www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of
the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities,
social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts.
With nineteen academic departments and nine interdisciplinary
programs, the College is the liberal arts core of the University. A
great strength of the College is its faculty of approximately 140
full-time teacher-scholars. The College offers 31 undergraduate
majors and 34 undergraduate minors; six graduate degrees are
offered in Education, Counselor Education, and Creative Writing.
Every undergraduate major requires a senior research project,
giving students the opportunity to design and carry out independent
research under faculty mentorship. Our academic programs are shaped
by the values of social justice and civic responsibility. All of
our courses and programs of study promote engaged learning, whereby
students create connections between the classroom or lab and the
local, regional, and global community. The academic programs of the
College of Arts and Sciences prepare students to live significant
lives, interact with and positively affect the world around
them.
