Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) announces a search to recruit
an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Business Engagement to lead
its efforts to develop productive partnerships with private sector
businesses, including all potential aspects of business
engagements, from philanthropy to sponsored research, executive
education, and student recruitment. The AVP will be responsible for
developing and implementing holistic cultivation and relationship
management strategies for top corporate prospects to achieve these
outcomes, and will also oversee the CMU Center for Business
Engagement (Center), a key element of CMU’s business engagement
strategy. The AVP reports to both the Vice President for Research
and the Vice President for University Advancement, with the
Center’s administrative home being in University Advancement. The
AVP will also serve as an active member of the leadership teams for
both the divisions of Research and University Advancement, and will
lead a team of corporate relationship management professionals in
identifying prospects, and developing and proposing strategies for
the cultivation and solicitation of major corporations and
institutional partners to achieve university and divisional
goals.
Effective collaboration is key to success in this role and in
achieving university-wide corporate relations objectives. The AVP
will work closely with academic and administrative leaders,
college- and school-based advancement and corporate relations
staff, and faculty. The AVP will also be expected to develop and
maintain relationships with the business engagement leads at each
of the university’s seven (7) colleges and schools, and with key
campus partners such as the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship, the
Office of Sponsored Research, the Center for Technology Transfer
and Enterprise Creation, and the Career and Professional
Development Center, among others.

since its founding, it continues to be known for creativity,
solutions to real-world problems, and interdisciplinary
collaboration. Its alumni have earned distinction around the globe

of university-industry engagement, if preferred, as is specific

engineering fields, in corporate, academic and government
settings.
