Position Summary:
Job Summary Reports to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. The primary task is to assist the head coach in conducting team workouts. Specific responsibilities include conduct prescribed workouts for all teams as determined by head strength and conditioning coach and the director of athletics. Assist head strength coach in testing student-athletes to monitor progress in strength, speed and conditioning.
This position is a one-year appointment with possibility of renewal upon reassessment.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Teach, evaluate, and monitor progress on technical Olympic lifts and other exercises prescribed from head strength and conditioning coach.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and productivity of student athletes in weight room.
  • Supervise team workouts during assigned times by the head strength and conditioning coach.
  • Provide feedback to the student-athletes.
  • Encourage and motivate student-athletes.
  • Set up and break down weight rooms as directed by the head strength and conditioning coach.
  • Adhere to all NCAA, Landmark Conference and University rules and regulations.
  • Serve as a role model to student-athletes daily.
  • Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner.
  • Develop positive rapport with student athletes, as well as the entire SU community.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach to support the supervision of the Vialonga Performance Center, Clyde's Fitness Center and Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Specifically provide support to women's athletic programs.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach to support the supervision of student workers who can assist both in the Jacobs Fitness Center and the free weight area.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach in partnership with the head coaches to develop year-round training programs that are specific to the varsity sports.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach to support SU athletes training on proper technique in all strength and conditioning activities.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach to support team and group workouts, utilizing the Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Assist the head strength and conditioning coach to maintain an orderly and safe environment oof the Vialonga Performance Center and provide support to the Clydes Fitness Center.

    Required Qualifications:
    Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesEvidence of positive attitude and the ability to get along well with others. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the area of strength training and conditioning. EducationBachelor’s degree required. Minimum certification or proof of future exam date for NSCA, CSCCa, or Olympic Certification from USAW or Totten Training Systems required. Experience1-2 years related experience required (such as coaching student-athletes in a sport). Physical DemandMust have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively engage in a variety of fitness activities. Position requires jumping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to perform Olympic lifts and lift up to 100lbs. Early morning and evening work is expected, as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Education
    Certification in Strength and Conditioning through the NSCA or CSCCa preferred.
