Dean, West College of Education

Midwestern State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the West College of Education. The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will begin Fall 2022.

Midwestern State University, a Texas public university with nearly 5,900 students, is located in Wichita Falls (population 103,000), 120 miles northwest of Dallas near the Oklahoma border. MSU is one of 29 members of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) and a member of the Texas Tech System. The West College of Education was successfully reaccredited by TEA in 2018 and CAEP in 2021. The West College of Education is located in Bridwell Hall, a facility remodeled in 2019. The college offers the Bachelor of Science in Education degree with majors in Early Childhood (EC-3, EC-6, Early Care), Grades 4-8, Sport and Leisure Studies, Physical Education, Special Education, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Secondary Education; and the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences with multiple concentrations.  Students may earn a Master of Education degree with majors in Sports Administration, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership or a Master of Art degree in Counseling or Human Resource Development. In addition, the college now offers a doctor of education degree in educational leadership. The West College of Education seeks a candidate with evidence of successful teaching, leadership, accreditation processes and oversight of education programs. In addition, a candidate should be able to show previous efficacy in working openly and effectively with faculty and staff in a collaborative and inclusive manner as well as a thorough understanding of, and experience with, the processes and requirements of TEA and CAEP, while maintaining the highest standards of honesty and Integrity.

Leading candidates will have a distinguished record of accomplishment and relevant administrative experience. Applicants must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D or Ed.D) in an education discipline; an established record of effective teaching and scholarly activity that warrants appointment as an associate or full professor in one of the College's departments; relevant academic administrative and fiscal management experience; experience with accrediting activities; knowledge of trends and issues in higher education; and strong leadership and communication skills. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to work with the education community including: college, university, Region IX, and state constituencies, as well as, local and state governing bodies.  Additionally, the candidate will have a history demonstrating an ability to work with other colleges within a university environment. The candidate will serve as a catalyst to advance the mission and identity of the West College of Education, increase enrollment, and establish the college as an exemplar in the formation of reflective practitioners with identifiable marketable skills.
