Job Description

The Battalion Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) reports to the Deputy Commandant of Cadets for each Battalion and is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to a full time Corps of Cadets. The Corps of Cadets was established in 1872. The Virginia Tech 1,000 plus member Corps of Cadets offers student cadets invaluable opportunities for superior leadership training and individual and career development. Virginia Tech is the first land grant university in the nation to combine the leader development curriculum of a Corps experience with academic coursework in leadership to award a minor in leadership studies.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement programs and services to achieve the Corps' mission to graduate leaders of character who are instilled with the values and skills essential for leadership success in service to the nation.
- Guide student development in skills required for success as leaders, academic excellence, cultural awareness, self-responsibility and social interaction.
- Work with Deputy Commandant to oversee training, supervision, professional development and evaluation of assigned cadet leaders and staffs.
- Serve as an instructor within the Corps teaching drill and ceremony, flag protocol, leadership, ethics, discipline, specific military skill subjects and other topics as assigned
- Work directly with senior Cadet Noncommissioned Officers to instill and develop among cadets an understanding of the proper roles and functions of NCOs within a military organization
- Coordinate, plan, and supervise field training-type events and activities
- Assist Deputy Commandants with the administration of the Corps disciplinary system, particularly the administration of the demerit system
- Develop general knowledge of all departmental functions and processes in order to serve as resource to others or to act in place of the Deputy Commandant as required or directed. Ensures compliance with state and university policies in department operations.
- Lead professional and student staff in developing supportive and multicultural environments through community development and educational programming.
- Provide appropriate counseling and referral for individual students when needed.
- Cultivate on and off-campus relationships and partnering efforts that facilitate achievement of Corps institutional goals and objectives. Participate in Corps recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Provide leadership in the planning and execution of conferences, meetings, special events and projects as assigned.
- Serve as an advisor to cadet organizations
- Serve as VTCC Staff POC for cadet leader development organizations
- Support, advise, and provide input on Cadet Regulations and inspections
- Serve on assigned departmental and University committees and participate in other professional development opportunities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience in the effective supervision of staff and students | Demonstrated commitment to diversity | Strong communications skills to include instructional and presentation experience | Collaborative work style | Ability to work effectively with all university constituents | Bachelor's degree and or related training and experience equating to a degree | Military experience as a Senior Noncommissioned officer in the grade of E7 or above | Drill and Ceremony experience | Experience with Field Training Exercises

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a military college/school or federal service academy with recent active service. | Previous experience with a ROTC program and/or with graduates of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. | Experience working in a recruit or officer training program | Command Senior Enlisted Advisor experience | Master's degree
