As a member of the Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship Group, the Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship Specialist collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to utilize technological solutions in the fulfillment of teaching, learning, and research objectives. The Specialist contributes to faculty and staff development by organizing events such as workshops, learning communities, and seminars on topics of relevance to the Bucknell community, as well as by vetting new technologies and communicating their findings to the University. The Specialist has an opportunity to make a real difference across campus, has the capacity to learn digital scholarship tools and pedagogies, and may serve as a liaison to one or more departments. This position reports to the Manager, Instructional Technology. All Library & Information Technology staff members are expected to contribute to Bucknell's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Job Duties:
  • Implement emerging technologies that may foster new modes of learning and scholarship in collaboration with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provide support to faculty and students for (some of the) instructional technologies currently in use at Bucknell. May include Wordpress, Moodle, Zoom, iClicker, Kaltura Mediaspace, Gradescope, GIS, audio / video production, etc.
  • Participate in the academic technology/instructional technology/digital scholarship profession at both the national and regional levels.
    • Determine what practices/tools at other institutions are worth examining and potentially implementing at Bucknell.
    • Share information about L&IT's achievements and challenges as related to their role as digital pedagogy & scholarship specialist.
    • Develop knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in outreach, instruction, information literacy/technology competency, blended learning, multi-media production, web technologies, digital scholarship, and desktop tools.
  • Provide specialized instruction, advice, and guidance to faculty and students in the application of technology in teaching, learning, and research.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to explore new instructional technologies.
  • Coordinate, develop, organize, and lead events and programs such as presentations, workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and learning communities.
  • Provide initial guidance to faculty members to facilitate digital scholarship and pedagogy projects, including: project vision and definition, advice about project scope, requirements, specification, and or design; serves as project manager or team member (as appropriate) for digital scholarship projects.
  • Collaborate with Research Services librarians to promote information and digital literacies and resources across campus.
  • Actively identifies possible points of collaboration with other areas within Library & Information Technology and other stakeholders across campus.
  • Support other members of the Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship team in providing coverage to the campus community.
  • Collaborate with Library and IT staff on building community and establishing the Library as a central site of scholarly inquiry.
  • Serve on appropriate campus committees as representative of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship and/or Library & IT.
  • Attend academic department lectures, colloquiums, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in a related field (Educational Technology, MLIS, or related field) or bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years experience teaching or working with instructional technologies
  • Demonstrated desire to learn technologies related to teaching and learning in higher education
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write clear, accurate communications and other documentation
  • Ability to set priorities and manage work and deadlines independently
  • Capacity to learn how to analyze data and make local decisions based on national and local trends and to design processes that enhance services while maximizing university resources
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, and capacity to learn how to effectively plan and execute workshops and other instruction/teaching responsibilities

Other Requirements:
  • Exempt employees are required to work as much time as is necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position without additional compensation, even if the work is performed beyond “normal” work hours.

  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Higher education work experience
