Department Summary
The Departments of Romance Languages, East Asian Languages and Literatures, and German and Scandinavian, are instructional and research departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Departments are composed of over 70 faculty members of different national origins, both nationally and internationally distinguished, and over 75 graduate students. The Departments teach over 6000 students a year.

The Departments are in the process of being rolled into a newly created School of Global Studies and Languages.

Position Summary
This position collaborates with the Finance and Administration Manager on the day-to-day administration of the departments and focuses on undergraduate and graduate program management, communications, events, and staff supervision. The position participates in strategic planning to determine the allocation of financial and human resources and meet the departments' goals. The position interacts frequently with local faculty, students, classified staff, and other Officers of Administration, as well as with staff in other departments and central units.

This position will initially report directly to the Executive Director of the School of Global Studies and Languages.

Minimum Requirements
  • Four years' experience providing administrative support to a department, program, or other organization
  • Supervisory or lead work experience

  • Highly adaptable and open to change
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to assess situations and determine next steps independently

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in higher education
  • Experience with an enterprise resource planning system such as Banner
  • Experience supervising employees under a collective bargaining agreement
