Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities
Juniata College invites applicants for part-time academic coach.

We are seeking candidates with a passion for helping students achieve success in college.
Academic coaching is an interactive partnership focusing on the process of learning how to learn.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
· Help students examine their educational goals, learning styles, habits of working, and current difficulties or barriers to success.
· Work with students to create and implement effective strategies to achieve goals.
· Heighten awareness of what it takes to achieve academic success and anchor this with new strategies, a supportive relationship, and personal accountability.
· Help students understand how their use of time and levels of organization or disorganization (paper, space, and technological data) impact their studies.
· Collaborate with students, helping them navigate through-and triumph over-personal and academic challenges, articulate goals, craft a pathway to achieving them, and cultivate the knowledge and skills needed for academic, career and personal success.

Essential Duties:
· Work collaboratively within the Health and Wellness Team.
· Ability to motivate students.
· Manage and coach a caseload of assigned students through positive responsive relationships.
· Maintain a holistic view of students’ progression, proactively monitoring their progression toward academic and career goals alongside creating a supportive, encouraging relationship.
· Utilize appropriate technology; maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student.
· Provide timely interventions and coaching to students; support students in identifying and addressing problems and connect them with appropriate support services.
· Teach students how to navigate campus and community resources.
· Empower students to advocate for themselves effectively.
· Proactively identify and eliminate student-success barriers such as goal setting, time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, self-advocacy, mindset, etc.
· Utilizing all available methods, communicate with students within your caseload based on student needs and comfort level; develop a flexible and personalized communication plan.
· Develop and provide education, training and/or workshops on topics related to student success to students, co-workers and other college personnel and groups.
· Follow all college policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines as they relate to this position.
· Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws.
· Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace. Position Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, psychology, or related field with a minimum of one year work experience in an educational setting working directly with students or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
· Good knowledge of a student-centered and equity-minded approach to academic coaching.
· Considerable skill in problem solving and research.
· Considerable skill to manage a caseload of students proactively and independently.
· Considerable skill in working independently and as a team; with the ability to determine approach for completing work based on guidelines.
· Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word and Excel
· Considerable skill in independently organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to respond to changing goals and priorities.
· Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
· Considerable skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
· Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
