Description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an open-rank position in the History of Philosophy, to begin Fall semester, academic year 2022-23. We are interested in all periods and traditions.

Teaching responsibilities will include graduate courses and dissertation supervision in the Department of Philosophy, undergraduate courses for Philosophy majors, and undergraduate courses on philosophical texts that will be shared between the Philosophy Department and the Program in Core Texts and Ideas, a certificate program that enrolls students in all majors in a close reading of significant literary, philosophic, religious, and political texts with a view to illuminating questions of enduring human concern. The standard teaching load is two courses per long semester (four courses per academic year).

Other duties include maintaining an active research agenda and providing service to the Department, College of Liberal Arts, and the University.

Qualifications

The position is open to scholars of any rank, and area of specialization is open within the History of Philosophy or any of its subfields. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. for appointment as Assistant Professor or higher ranks, or expect to obtain it within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. Demonstrated excellence in research is required. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research and service.
