The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Head Football Coach/FAST Coordinator, De Anza College.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

    Under the direction of the Dean, Physical Education & Athletics Division instruct community college physical education and kinesiology courses to a diverse student population AND lead the Mountain Lions football team as head coach at a college committed to student equity. The instructor will be expected to teach in related areas. Course topic areas are typical of lower division undergraduate work in kinesiology, which include: sport-related classes for football; and activity classes/lecture classes for kinesiology majors and non-majors/general student populations. As head coach, the selected candidate will lead and assist in all aspects of the football program, including recruiting, compliance, practice planning, budgeting, traveling, conditioning, fundraising, statistics reporting, equipment purchasing, and selection of assistant coaches and volunteers; and other duties associated with the position. Secondary duties include the coordination of the FAST (Fostering Academic Success Together) cohort in the Athletic Department, including student-athlete study hall activities, monitoring academic progress, and connecting tutoring/support services; other activities such as student recruitment; act as liaison between the college and professional and/or educational organizations and community advisory groups; develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum in the subject matter of expertise in both the laboratory and lecture where appropriate.

    This should include the integration of technology for instructional purposes in both the activity/laboratory and lecture where appropriate.

    Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • A Master's degree in any physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science or adaptive physical education OR a Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent.

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College-level instructional experience in physical education, kinesiology or related fields.
  • College-level football coaching experience.
  • Experience working with football operations and overall programming.
  • Experience working with diverse students in academic study hall/support group settings.
  • Teaching pedagogy adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

    • Ability to teach and communicate effectively with students.

    • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with faculty and support staff.

    • Ability to develop curriculum and work with academically and culturally diverse students.

    • Flexibility and ability to work as a member of a team of professionals.

    • Ability to communicate articulately and effectively with individuals differing in age, gender, ethnicity, educational, and economic background.

    • Ability to encourage students to engage in their own learning and motivate them to develop critical thinking skills.

    HIRING RANGE: $66,539.00 - $109,280.0 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
