Job Summary

The Executive Director of Technology supports the LeBow College of Business strategic plan, students, faculty & staff by providing an innovative technology environment that fosters student success, improves teaching, learning and business operations, and the research efforts of the faculty Reporting to the Dean of LeBow College of Business, the Executive Director serves in an executive level management role of LeBow systems and services to effectively address the current and future academic & business technology needs of LeBow College of Business and Drexel University. The Executive director is responsible for the design, development, release and maintenance of technology systems and services for all LeBow functions. This technical, operations-centered senior executive is seen as a trusted partner of the Dean leading the college to become a highly efficient organization. This position is primarily responsible for integrating the functions and operations of the LeBow technical departments (Instructional Technology, Web Systems Development and Design, Audiovisual Classroom Technology, and Desktop Support) and providing strategic direction, project management, governance, and continuity for the college to ensure the effective and uniform integration of new & existing technologies and the enhancement of IT systems college wide.

Executive Director Main Duties:
• Sets the mission and vision of the IT organization to foster a customer-centric culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement processes.
• Be a trusted advisor that builds and maintains relationships with other leaders within LeBow and Drexel to develop a keen understanding of business operational needs; ensures efficient delivery of IT services to meet those needs.
• Build a multi-year roadmap and key performance indicators that are well understood and anticipate emerging needs.
• Own the IT “People Strategy” that will forecast the future skill needed to acquire and develop an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies that balance between growing agility and ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable, and efficient.
• Foster a culture of trusted partnership, service, and continuous improvement.
• Build a deep bench of team leadership and technical talent to deliver results and support future growth and mentor the team to their full potential

Essential Functions

1. Determines technology vision and direction for the LeBow College of Business-
o Oversees the development of college technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure that all technical divisions deliver value to the college and university.
o Implements Lebow Technology continuous-improvement programs within university guidelines.
o Identifies and implements best practices for optimizing infrastructure and operations costs, improving system performance, and ensuring service-level requirements are met.
o Stays current with developments in new technologies and platforms.

2. Plans, implements, directs, and monitors the integration of new technologies into the college infrastructure.
o Drives development of the technology architecture, infrastructure planning, engineering, and deployment.
o Leads the LeBow asset management team to ensure that all assets achieve their full lifetime cycle value.
o Regularly reviews all technology costs and cost structures for LeBow services and products.
o Develops and manages strategic vendor and partnership relationships.
o Negotiates contracts with vendors. Represents LeBow in University managed IT projects to ensure college needs are addressed.

3. Works with the Dean and college leadership team providing in-depth technical expertise in support of college wide business decisions.
o Manages LeBow resource requirements to ensure an appropriate balance exists between tactical and strategic demands.

4. Oversees 4 teams: Instructional Technology, Web Systems Development and Design, AV Systems, and Desktop Support.

o Directs teams of technical, professional and management staff in the successful fulfillment of LeBow service delivery commitments.
o Facilitates communications across all LeBow technical groups, user, and university communities.
o Formulates LeBow policies, procedures, and performance management processes and measures.

5. Directs risk evaluation and compliance management processes.

6. Liaison between other technology units within the University

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelors Degree is required.
  • 10 years of directly related experience is required.
  • Extensive experience in managing infrastructure and operations.
  • Strong leadership capability, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibility.
  • Extensive knowledge of infrastructure planning and operations, design, and deployment, as well as system life cycle management.
  • Expertise in budget planning, financial management and resource management.
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions and strategic application to business needs.
  • Strong business acumen and business planning skills.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of diverse scopes in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across all lines of business and technology platforms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms and establish rapport.
