Job Description Summary

The Associate Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Student Success ( TLSS ) Administrative Services ( TLSS AS) reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost of TLSS serving as his/her chief operating officer and primary advisor. The AVP provides sound management across the area with primary responsibility for academic administrative leadership, and works closely with the Associate Vice President for Partnerships and Economic Development ( PEW ) and the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Associate Vice President will assist, advise, and represent the EVP and Provost in academic and administrative matters. The AVP is responsible for providing administrative support and strong leadership for faculty issues, strategic planning, assessment, HR issues, and other areas, and serves as a member of the expanded senior leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned Doctorate required. Progressive academic leadership experiences, postsecondary teaching experience, preferably in community college setting.
  2. Previous experience as a Department Chair or Dean or equivalent position in a postsecondary setting preferred.
  3. Demonstrated leadership and accomplishments in the areas of academic affairs, workforce development and/or student affairs.
  4. Minimum of four years of supervisor experience preferred.


Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed.   1. Serve as chief operating office and primary advisor to the EVP and Provost providing hands-on, detail-oriented leadership in managing the fast-paced activities of the area and coordinating administrative responsibilities across a large, complex organizational structure.
  2. Assist the EVP and Provost with the management of administrative staff and operations for the TLSS area including finance, faculty issues, curriculum, human resources, communications, and events.
  3. Monitor programs and initiatives of TLSS to ensure they are in alignment with the College’s strategic plan and in particular, collaborate closely with the AVP for PEW in support of workforce training.
  4. Serve as lead administrator, in partnership with project managers, on one or more critical initiatives at any given time, guiding the project team, driving appropriate analyses, meeting project goals, managing timelines and working with the senior leadership to successfully implement new processes, technology or strategy while encouraging good change management practices.
  5. Lead efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and manage institutional policies associated with faculty affairs (e.g., recruiting, hiring, and cultivating a diverse faculty, retention, performance evaluation, promotion, tenure, and post-tenure).
  6. Oversee new faculty and adjunct faculty orientation programs, Newly Hired Faculty Program, Center for Teaching and Learning, faculty mentoring and development programs, and professional education initiatives for all faculties.
  7. Supervise and evaluate the Director of Learning Resources and the Library, the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Program Manager for Early/Middle College and HS Early College Partnerships, the directors of the Extension Centers, the Budget Analyst, the CE Operations Manager, and administrative office staff.
  8. Provide leadership, guidance and oversight for Phi Theta Kappa, the College’s Honors Program and Honors Academy.
  9. Maintain current knowledge of trends and innovations in community colleges generally, and in the programs of study within the division; communicate and share this knowledge regularly with staff and faculty.
  10. Work with each program to maintain the active engagement of each program’s Advisory Board(s).
  11. Recommend instructional and general policies, conduct meetings to facilitate planning and collegial decision-making and to keep staff informed about issues and projects for the overall College instructional program.
  12. Provide oversight and final approval for grants submitted on behalf of TLSS ; work with the AVP for PED, who oversees the Perkins Grant.
  13. Model and promote collegiality within and across areas of the College, working collaboratively with other College leaders to create and sustain a culture that promotes student learning and responds to the needs of the PGCC community.
  14. Serve as requested on various College committees.
  15. Represent the EVP and Provost at internal and external events as requested.
  16. Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  1. Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
