Job Description Summary

The incumbent is responsible for administrative and student-facing support to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The special assistant is an optimistic and visible collaborator who will lead with a project management, analytical and research-based acumen in our fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate will have a student development lens, strong written and verbal communication skills and function well in a confidential and organized atmosphere devoted to student success and personnel support. The position is expected to fulfill identified responsibilities with limited supervision while maintaining effective communication and high levels of confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in education, business administration, public sector administration, public policy, or other related field preferred.
  2. A working knowledge of college administration or other student-facing organizations is essential.

  1. Student-focused, team-centered and achievement driven.
  2. Manage short/long-term critical priorities and activities, and represents the interests and priorities of Student Affairs and the college at-large.
  3. Support the VPSA’s priorities by providing context and data analytics as appropriate, coordinate research, projects, meetings and initiatives, as designated; work with the VPSA to establish strategic priorities and arrange reporting of priorities on a regular basis.
  4. Coordination and integration of strategic and ongoing objectives.
  5. Advance processes and timelines for managing calendar, area workflows and specialty initiatives.
  6. Keen knowledge of current trends impacting student life and provide related timely advice to the VPSA .
  7. Balance competing priorities and effectively move complex projects toward clearly defined outcomes. The incumbent coordinates functions and activities of the VPSA office and works with the VPSA and student affairs leadership team to ensure steady operational progress.
  8. Elevate challenges and key topics to the surface for consideration, ensure appropriate action, and communicate results throughout the organization as appropriate.



Job Requirements

  1. Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  3. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
