Laboratory Coordinator/Administrative Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Said Sebti in the NCI-designated Massey Cancer Center and the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. The research focus of the laboratory is to understand at the basic science level how normal cells become malignant and to translate such fundamental knowledge to the clinic.

The Laboratory Coordinator/Administrative Assistant will support a growing research lab by assisting the Principal Investigator and scientific staff with managing laboratory operations. Key responsibilities include: (1) assisting in development and maintenance of regulatory approvals for research protocols, IACUC, Material Transfer Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements and research sponsored research agreements (2) coordinating lab operations such as maintaining inventories, ordering supplies, and general maintenance, (3) Assisting in documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures, and (4) Providing administrative support in preparation of grants, abstracts, presentations, as well as assisting with scheduling and communications on behalf of the Principal Investigator.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical science with prior experience working in a research laboratory
  • Self-motivated and is able to manage daily activities, organize, plan, prioritize and complete tasks, duties and assignments timely and efficiently
  • Previous experience using computers and a variety of software applications including email, calendar products, Microsoft applications, Word, Power Point and web-based databases
  • Experience in working with a variety of research focused faculty in a research intensive environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a diverse environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in program or project management preferred

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
