Description

To provide direct advocacy services for a multi-disciplinary, hospital based sexual and domestic violence program, dedicated to enhancing prevention and intervention services to victims and families experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic violence (DV), sexual assault (SA), and Human Trafficking (HT). Provide training of medical providers on screening and intervention to victims of crime.

Typical Duties
  • Under the direction of the Project Empower Manager, Assistant Director and Director of Injury and Violence Prevention under the Division of Acute Care Surgical Services and will provide hospital and community-based services to patients within the VCU Health System who have experienced IPV/DV/SA/HT through assessment, crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy
  • Will work with hospital and community providers to participate in connecting patients to appropriate services
  • Will assist in administering and tracking the use of a crisis fund serving patient, employees, and student victims of IPV/DV/SA/HT
  • Will facilitate communication and networking amongst service providers to increase efficiency and effectiveness of direct services to victims
  • Will provide accompaniment for victims of IPV/DV/SA/HT within the hospital, criminal justice system, and other systems as needed
  • Will provide on-going case management and follow up services post discharge for as long as needed/requested by the patient or until securely handed off to a local provider for additional services
  • Will participate in training interns and volunteers and supporting the internship and volunteer program
  • Will be responsible for working with the team to ensure is maintained during all scheduled working hours
  • Will be responsible for providing training to medical providers and hospital staff across VCU Health Systems and identified community partners on screening, identification, and referral of victims of violence to Empower or other appropriate
  • Will complete all program goals and grant funded goals as assigned within due dates
  • Will complete all data and documentation requirements within 24 hours of each response/case management/training event
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field and 0-3 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary hospital program team, individuals and families experiencing IPV/DV/SA/HT, and community providers
  • Ability to provide assessment, advocacy/case management and supportive mental health services to patients
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must agree to CPS and criminal background check
  • Dependable transportation required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or other human services related field
  • 3 years of experience and training working with the IPV/DV/SA/HT population in hospital-based, community-linked programs
  • Knowledge of IPV/DV/SA/HT service system
  • Prior knowledge and training in trauma-informed care for victims of IPV/DV/SA/HT
