Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
To provide high level professional support and assistance to the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research as a human resources generalist and related special projects deemed to be of critical need
Typical Duties
- Lead a variety of HR functions, such as recruitment and staffing, employee records, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, recognition, etc.
- Utilizing HR systems, process accurate and timely routine compensation and recruitment actions, as well as confidential forms and records pertaining to applications, employment, enrollment, pay changes, and other sensitive HR materials
- Verify accuracy of submitted data and ensure policy compliance
- Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provides assistance
- Provide support and guidance on leave policies and procedures, including overtime, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), etc.
- Provide new hire onboarding and off-boarding for separating employees
- Assist with HR related communications Assist with the maintenance of all employee records
- Assist in answering employee and manager questions managers regarding annual and probationary performance evaluations
- Participate in HR Associate group meetings and trainings
- Support unit-wide engagement initiatives
- Associate's degree and 1-3 years relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training;
- Working knowledge of office procedures;
- Experience supporting senior level managers, specifically in higher level education setting;
- Excellent ability to make time sensitive judgement and decisions related to the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research operations;
- Proficiency in the use of a personal computer;
- Strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, data and information management skills;
- Ability to attend to details and meet deadlines;
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple priorities simultaneously;
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers in a diverse environment.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or the commitment to do so at VCU.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Working knowledge of VCU policies and procedures, especially those related to research activities and human resources needs;
- SHRM certification.
