The Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Family Medicine and Population Health at VCU is seeking a full-time Graduate Programs Coordinator to join us in our mission to provide outstanding epidemiology and public health training, conduct innovative research, and engage in impactful service. Our division integrates research, education, and public health service programs with our fully accredited Masters of Public Health degree and through our dual programs with medicine (MD), social work (MSW), and pharmacy (PharmD). This position in the School of Medicine at VCU will serve the primary purpose of managing, coordinating, and implementing educational activities in our graduate programs in public health within the division.

Duties Include:
  • Planning events such as new student orientation and graduation recognition.
  • Managing the graduate programs’ social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) and coordinating periodic division web page updates.
  • Supporting coordination of Fall and Spring division seminar series and continuing education workshops.
  • Records management: maintaining records of student progress and degree completion and providing workshop/seminar certificates as required; maintaining records of continuing education offerings, instructors, attendees, etc. Identifying records issues in a timely fashion.
  • Developing periodic advising letters for students.
  • Supporting recruitment efforts including responses to prospective students and graduate program applicants and staffing recruitment fairs.
  • Overseeing the MPH program service-learning requirement.
  • Guiding students in adhering to graduate program and VCU graduate school policies and procedures.
  • Responding to telephone and email inquiries about graduate programs and meeting with graduate program visitors and prospective students.
  • Working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and different disciplines (e.g., public health, social sciences, clinical health sciences, pharmacy, social work, veterinary medicine), including interaction with schools involved with dual degree programs (medicine, social work, pharmacy).
  • Exhibiting an understanding of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in interactions with students, staff, and faculty members.
  • Must communicate regularly with supervisor about work progress and obstacles as they arise.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously; planning and prioritizing tasks effectively for the timely meeting of deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically both orally and in writing with a diverse population.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and any related personal information.
  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks with speed, responsiveness, and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assimilate and apply a broad knowledge of graduate program policies and procedures.
  • Project a positive attitude that promotes the Division and its graduate programs in all interpersonal interactions.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree OR Associate’s degree with at least 2 years providing administrative or educational support in an academic / university setting.
  • Demonstrate collaborative, collegial work effort and flexibility according to team needs.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimum guidance, recognizing when supervisory guidance is necessary.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills that reflect the concise and grammatically correct expression of ideas.
  • Ability to be on-site in Richmond, VA as needed.
Highly preferred but not required – applicants with a relevant Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, community health, education, the social sciences, or a related field and at least one year of relevant experience with similar student coordinator duties.

This is a full-time, exempt, benefitted role that will remain open until filled with priority given to applications received by November 5th, 2021 . Salary Range: $42,000 - $48,400 annually depending upon relevant education and experience
