This position is responsible for providing instruction to K-5th grade students enrolled in the Refugee Youth Project’s after-school program at Moravia Park Elementary School. Responsibilities include teaching art class, development of instructional materials, student assessment, and following student record keeping processes and procedures.
Responsibilities/Duties
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide art enrichment programming and supplementing academic instructions for K-5th grade students
- Implement and teach a 2-hour lesson to students focusing on art education
- Integrate community volunteers into the classroom, supervising and utilizing their presence effectively
- Maintain a positive learning environment
- Ensure the safety of students at all times; adhere to all CDC and City School protocols regarding Covid-19
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of classrooms and other spaces
- Maintain punctuality, attendance, and provide notification to supervising staff when appropriate
- Attend trainings, events, and meetings for after school programs (occasionally outside of regular hours)
- Comply with various federal, state, and local laws that apply to and regulate responsibilities
- Keep records for program in accordance with requirements
- Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures as it relates to student advancement for the division and the college at large. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.
- On a regular basis, exercises judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people and quality of services within the functional area.
- Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate. Require good oral and written communication skills.
- Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time.
- Reaching by extending hand(s) or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
- Ability to move about.
Required Qualifications
Education :
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma.
- 1-3 years of professional work experience.
- Ability to teach art lessons to young children required.
- Experience working with youth with limited English skills preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment a plus.
- Experience working with and supervising volunteers a plus, but not required.
