Assistant Professor of History

Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the History Department, who specializes in Afro-Latinx Studies and the African-Latinx Diaspora, to start August 1, 2022. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the current Africana Studies program and History program in their primary field of research as well as aid in the development of the new major in Africana Studies. They will be expected to develop courses that contribute to the curriculum in the new Africana Studies program and the History program. Annual teaching load will include four courses per semester, including lower-level courses, such as Introduction to Africana Studies associated with General Education, as well as upper- level courses in the major. They will also be expected to pursue opportunities in both professional/research development as well as meet expectations regarding service to the college, department, and larger community. Candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred, but ABD candidates will be considered upon evidence of near completion of degree. Candidates’ degrees will be in History with primary research area grounded in Latin America and the Afro-Latinx Diasporic Experience.
