Summary of Job Duties:With the establishing of the Center for High-Frequency Electronics and Circuits for Communication Systems (CHECCS) and expansion of the Operations Manager’s responsibilities to fulfill the center mission and goals, a full time Managing Director (MD) is being hired. The Managing Director will report to and work in close partnership with CHECCS’s Director and the management team to administer this technically complex, multi-university, and continuously evolving Center.

Responsibilities of the position are:
•tThe MD serves as manager and central administrator for the Center, acting within the policies and procedures of the Center, the University, and the National Science Foundation Cooperative Agreement, to achieve Center goals. This includes oversight of the day to day activities of the Center, including coordination and planning of activities, financial management, project management, IP management, budget preparation, facilities support, grant administration, human resources, general administration and resource allocation.
•tCoordinate and develop interactions between Center faculty and industrial sponsors to build mutually beneficial relationships and improve project outcomes.
•tSet processes and procedures to enhance the management and communication of new project proposals, project progress and outcomes for both faculty and industry members.
•tPlan and run the bi-annual Industry Advisory Board meetings.
•tDevelop new industrial contacts and expand the Center’s membership.
•tIdentify new university contacts, both domestically and internationally, that add capabilities to the Center and assist in the incorporation these sites through the NSF approval process.
•tAdvance educational opportunities for underrepresented groups in the engineering profession through outreach activities and programs.
•tInteract with current graduate and undergraduate students in their ongoing projects and course work to assist in training potential employees for the Center’s industrial members.
•tInvolvement in outreach to surrounding schools and communities to aid in their technical growth and job opportunities.
•tNurture technical innovation among the Center’s faculty and students, leading to recognized publications and awarding of patents. Assist in the IP and patent management process.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelors or masters degree in relevant field or closely related area, with a Ph.D. preferred from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least five years of experience with a center relevant industries/organizations

  • Proven management experience showing administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills in dealing with complex, research-related matters

  • Proven leadership, communication, and team building skills with the different groups of individuals involved in the Center

    • Faculty communications

    • Student relations

    • Industry Advisory Board (IAB) relations

    • University relations

    • IAB meetings

    • Website management

  • Highly developed ability to prepare written communications and give presentations for technical and management audiences

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating projects involving many individual and institutional participants

  • Familiarity with the federal grant process, specifically the National Science Foundation, is desired but not required
