Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Physics at the University of Arkansas is seeking to fill the role of Foundry Liaison for the Arkansas site of the newly established MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry to support research in the area of experimental two-dimensional quantum materials and devices. The MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry is a six-year NSF research program jointly led by Montana State University (MSU) and the University of Arkansas (UA). Working with UA and MSU faculty, the Foundry Liaison will lead the team that is responsible for the development, acquisition, and deployment of the planned infrastructure of the MonArk Quantum Foundry during its first two years of operations. The team will be composed of graduate students, postdocs, and research faculty. The infrastructure includes state-of-the-art sample preparation, device fabrication, and optoelectronic characterization facilities for 2D quantum materials research. Close interactions with several industrial partners are expected. In subsequent years, the Foundry Liaison will leverage the expertise gained and infrastructure established in the first two years to lead and support collaborative, nationally-competitive research projects in the area of 2D quantum materials.

The portfolio of research projects is expected to consist of collaborative projects that are facilitated by the MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry user program. Graduate student and/or postdoc support will be made available to assist the appointee as needed for the successful execution of Foundry infrastructure setup, maintenance, and use. Throughout the appointment, the Foundry Liaison will also support the Foundry Assistant Director in the organization of an annual conference, external advisory board meetings, and annual reporting of the MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry.

This is a one-year appointment, renewable annually based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field conferred by the start of employment

  • Research experience in an experimental 2D quantum materials laboratory



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with robotics, electronics, instrument automation, or 2D material device fabrication and/or characterization



Salary Information:

$60,000
