Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Physics at the University of Arkansas is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics to conduct research at the Arkansas site of the newly established MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry. The Foundry is a six-year NSF research program jointly led by Montana State University (MSU) and the University of Arkansas (UA). More information on the MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry can be found on its website (www.monarkfoundry.org). The appointments will be made for three years, subject to annual performance reviews, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory performance in the role. The appointment includes a competitive salary commensurate with experience and benefits package.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be involved in research primarily related to two-dimensional and layered materials, as well as their heterojunctions, and will be expected to interact closely and routinely with experimentalists in the Foundry. Their main tasks will include carrying out ab initio calculations of these material systems (including DFT and/or Quantum Monte Carlo calculations) and/or the development of analytical optoelectronic models to assist experiments being carried out at the Foundry on layered materials that will include transition metal dichalcogenides, group-IV monochalcogenides, and two-dimensional magnets. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be expected to interact with graduate students and undergraduates in the Foundry and will be expected to write scientific papers and to present findings at professional meetings.

This is a one-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field conferred by the start of employment



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with one or more of the following: molecular beam epitaxy, scanning tunneling microscopy, ab initio calculations, optoelectronic device modeling, 2D material device fabrication, electronic transport and optoelectronic measurements, optically-addressed qubits, robotics, electronics, and instrument automation
