Scope of Job:
The successful candidate will be expected to possess a record of scholarship, teaching and service commensurate with the rank sought. In addition to teaching, the successful finalist will perform the duties of the Assistant Dean of Curriculum and Clinical Education reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Primary responsibilities are to provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the educational programs for the School of Podiatric Medicine (SOPM). Be responsible for providing oversight, review, coordination, and planning for the school as it relates to all four years (including pre-clerkship and clerkship phases) of the undergraduate podiatric medical curriculum development and implementation, faculty selection and supervision, and educational administration ensuring quality and effectiveness throughout the academic mission. Manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of the SOPM educational program. Work with the Interim Dean on establishing and maintaining educational excellence by achieving uniformity in the educational objectives of the evaluation process. Facilitate the development and implementation of clinical competency examinations. Develop and implement an academic outcomes assessment plan. Teaches in a variety of settings incorporating technology and student engaged pedagogies to maximize student success. Provide expertise and innovation in the creation and management of the School and Departmental informational technologies including educational systems. Act as a liaison, ensure effective communication and collaboration with the University Information Technology Department. Work with the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine faculty to ensure that curriculum is aligned with and achieving desired goals. Provide oversight for development of all curricula and instructional delivery. Direct the application of information technology in teaching and learning, which includes building faculty awareness of what is currently possible, and supporting faculty use and development of educational programming. Provide leadership in development, support, and implementation of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine's instructional program and services leading to academic success of all students. Establish a vision that supports the mission and strategy of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine, providing strategic and tactical leadership to ensure the school will be viewed nationally as a model in podiatric medicine. Integrate basic and clinical sciences all phases of instruction to ensure both vertical and horizontal integration of the curriculum. Work in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Interprofessional Education (SOM IPE) to integrate IPE into the curriculum design. Perform special assignments as requested by the Interim Dean. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from an accredited university. Five (5) years of progressive medical school academic leadership experience and in-depth understanding and knowledge of the CPME accreditation of undergraduate and graduate medical education programs and in particular the requirements and expectations of CPME. Broad based experience in the science of learning and proficiency in pedagogical principles and application of education theory and research applicable to the design of courses and curricula in medical education. Experience with technology-enhanced learning, distance education, and education across multiple geographically distributed campuses. Solid record of accomplishment in the development, implementation, and oversight of medical education.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from an accredited university.

Preferred Qualification:
Master’s in education, clinical investigation, or public health in addition to minimum qualifications stated above. Five (5) years of progressive medical school academic leadership experience and in-depth understanding and knowledge of the CPME accreditation of undergraduate and graduate medical education programs and in particular the requirements and expectations of CPME.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
