Foundation Technician (71104)
Pratt Institute is seeking a Foundation Technician who is a
creative problem solver with excellent communication, technical,
and organizational skills to support the analog and digital
facilities for the Foundation Department. The successful candidate
will assist in the day-to-day operation of 15 studio classrooms,
material and tool storage spaces, and create and manage systems to
check out digital equipment. This position supports students and
faculty through instruction in the use of tools and equipment,
including basic wood and plaster shop hand tools, equipment,
techniques, and safety standards and protocols. Working
collaboratively with other foundation technicians and with the
support and management of student workers, the Foundation
Operations manager, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate

On a typical day you will be required to:
- Organization and oversight of Foundation Department material
storage and tool spaces; help devise and implement a system for
shared resources, supplies, tools, and equipment between all
courses in Foundation.
- Serve as a weekend technician in Woodshop, ensuring proper
equipment use and safety. Demonstrate use of hand tools for
students in Foundation, keeping an ongoing inventory of all tools
and supplies; work with current inventories to update, revise and
make accessible to departments.
- Working with other foundation technicians, establish cleaning,
maintenance, and safety protocols and make recommendations for shop
and lab improvements to the Foundation Operations Manager.
- Communicate regularly with Faculty for day-to-day facility
concerns, and troubleshoot basic technical issues, including
teaching stations, printers, and connectivity.
This is an in-person, on-the-ground position, with hours Sunday
through Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The position will involve the
