Pratt Institute's Human Resources department is seeking a hands-on Director of Benefits to join our small, collaborative team. The Director of Benefits administers our benefits programs ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, participating in strategic planning, and providing direct benefits counsel to our 1800 faculty and staff. The Director supervises a Benefits Coordinator and Employee Leave Administrator and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.

On a typical day you will be required to:
  • Functioning as the chief point of contact regarding employee health, wellness and retirement benefits. Communicate benefits updates and other related information to faculty and staff, answer employee benefit inquiries, resolve claims, and intercede with vendors and broker(s) as necessary
  • Foster a culture of customer service within the benefits function; continuously review and modify benefits services and processes as necessary; develop communication program for employee benefits, through in-person presentations, social media, and other appropriate means; and participate in planning of employee recognition efforts and events
  • Managing administration of benefit programs for all employees, including health and welfare, worker's compensation, disability protection, retirement and other related benefits
  • Reviewing and ensuring accurate reporting and payment of premiums, claims, contributions and all other benefit-related expenses, as well as employee contributions, COBRA payments, etc., and audit budget report of benefits expenditures

Education: BA/BS degree is required (equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree); Master’s degree and/or CEBS, SHRM or HRCI certifications preferred.

Experience: At least five years’ relevant experience managing benefit and retirement programs, including four years’ experience in supervisory/management role. Higher education/non-profit and or Union benefit experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have superior knowledge of labor and employment law, particularly employee benefit laws and regulations; and experience using MS Office, benefit management software.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and work with a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of how diversity, equity and inclusion play a part in our benefit offerings.

Other: Proven experience required with oral and written communications, presentations, customer service, organizational and prioritization skills required.
