Salary:

$52,000.00 - $55,000.00

Normal Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary depending on university need. Some evening and weekends for special events.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean is responsible for the daily operations of Fraternity & Sorority Life, ongoing development and implementation of programs, and for the delivery of established programming priorities, and for assisting with moving toward achieving program goals, and conducts assessments to evaluate program effectiveness.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with Dean of Students Office, the SGA, and other student groups to ensure effective programming for entities of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Supervises recruitment functions of all councils while maintaining and publishing recruitment statistics.
  • Oversees judicial and discipline procedures involving Student Organizations.
  • Provides grade information and maintains grade statistics for Greek Organizations.
  • Maintains Greek Organizations membership records and statistics.
  • Provides leadership and officer training, workshops, retreats, etc.
  • Coordinates Greek Week activities.  
  • Serves as a liaison between Greek organizations and University administration, faculty, staff, parents, city officials and the community.
  • Develops publications pertaining to Greek Life, sororities, fraternities and recruitment.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Chanticleer, Public Relations, and Print Shop to promote events.
  • Acts as a resource person for information on alcohol abuse, risk management, new member education, scholarship ideas, etc.
  • Meets with alumni, advisors, and national visitors.
  • Provides Greek organizations with direction through workshops, programming, public relations, philanthropic activities, goal setting and evaluation.
  • Coordinates activities in Paul Carpenter Village (Greek Housing Community).
  • Provides opportunity for the educational, social, academic, and leadership development of students through programming and planned activities.
  • Serves on University committees and participates in professional development activities.
  • The employee in this position will speak and listen to others, both in person and over the telephone, and speak to large groups.
  • Moves from building to building on campus and travel off-campus occasionally.
  • Reads and writes documents in English.
  • Attends and serves as a resource for the Panhellenic, Interfraternity and National PanHellenic Councils, and officer meetings.
  • Participates in orientation activities as assigned by Dean of Students
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of Dean of Students Office activities such as J-Week, Homecoming, Miss JSU, JSU in Lights, CockyStock, etc. 
  • Serves as advisor to the Panhellenic, Interfraternity, and National Pan-Hellenic Councils. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Human and Social Services, Organizational Development, Psychology, Communication or closely related field
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in one of the student services program areas
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Human and Social Services, Organizational Development, Psychology, Communication or closely related field, and
  • Two (2) years’ professional work experience in fraternity or sorority life, or in Student Affairs/Student Affairs in a higher education environment
